For Every Romeo And Juliet A Lovely Hotel On Via Giulia

The old line is, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” Too many of us in the land of instant gratification have for too long lost the pleasure of what is wonderful and unfolding at its own pace. Too bad. The faster you go in life the sooner life is a blur.

For the last ten years, Italy has been my home for some part of the year. And Rome has played no small part. So it is always a pleasure when I find something small and wonderful in Rome. And from something small and wonderful, it is a wonder to see the wide and wonderful of Rome.

Okay, so with no more restrain let me pull back the curtain on my advice. On my last visit to Rome, my wife and I stayed at the D O M Hotel Roma.

D.O.M hotel emanates the atmosphere of an aristocratic household, a unique combination of that which is both sacred and luxurious: many original structural components, such as the exposed brick walls, coffered wooden ceilings and the blocks of marble with ancient religious inscriptions dating back to the Renaissance, were wisely retained and serve as a natural backdrop to the various pieces of both modern and vintage furniture, animalier details, and contemporary works of design and art including three original Andy Warhol silkscreens from the “Ladies and Gentlemen” series.

And here is the romance. The people who work at this hotel, love where they work and what they do, and that always translates. The food served in the gourmet restaurants is not just called gourmet, it is incredible, o molto incredibile!..in Italiano.

On a night when it poured, we sat in the bar and talked with the staff, even offering my jokes in Italian. And the night was not like another night in a hotel but a night with friends, in Rome.

Check this out. Walk by the Tiber, footsteps away. Have a drink late in the eve at Campo di Fiori. And of course, of course, you must try the Gelato in Piazza Navona, another five minutes from the hotel. The taste will linger. As will your memories. Trust me. I hold this memory close, still.
